User intent is the goal behind a search query—the reason someone types it. It’s used in SEO, and it helps you (the publisher) target keywords and create content. Common search intents include finding information, navigating to specific sites, making purchases, or researching options before deciding.
There are four types of user intent:
- Informational – Looking for answers or knowledge.
- Navigational – Seeking a specific website or page.
- Transactional – Ready to take action, like buying or signing up.
- Commercial Investigation – Researching options before a decision.
